NEED a haircut before Christmas? There is a chance the salon may be closed when you get there.
More than 300 hairdressers are out of work after one of Australia’s biggest hairdressing salon chains closed its doors without notice last week.
Queensland’s Evolve Salons, which owns 53 salons, of which about 35 are in Queensland under Bossy Hair, Bach, tmh, mieka and Legends Hairdressing, called in the liquidators after running up millions of dollars of debt.
Clients coming in for weddings, high school formals and pre-Christmas appointments were faced with closed doors after staff were allegedly told not to explain what occurred or risk losing whatever entitlements administrators recovered.
The company’s financial records show it had run up huge losses in the past three years with a loss of $2.66 million in the year to 2014 and $2.7 million in 2013.
Many employees vented on social media that they were turfed from their jobs with only an email for notice.
“We received an email one day and the stores were closed the next leaving 350 hairdressers out of work,” one Brisbane hairdresser posted.
